~Child's Play~
I remember the
Sacred, sunny time
Of youth,
When I ran carefree
And barefoot thru
My grass of dreams!
Each cool, green blade
Whispered with potency.
Popsicles of promise
On a hot, July day.
Waves of heat rising
From the sidewalk...
Fun was one
Water hose squirt away!
Counting stars with
A pointing finger,
Trying to capture their wonder
Reflected in my dancing eyes.
"One, two, three, four...
Oh I see two blue more!
Five, six, seven...
Look, there's the gates
To heaven!"
The total joy of childhood
On each Christmas Eve.
Like a thousand sunlit
Butterflies were dancing
Up inside my spirit's sleeve!
Oh, the untainted knowing!
Well-being without seeing.
Bless'ed blinders of youth,
Seeds of belief constantly growing.
We all have two levels
Of youth;
Two visions of truth.
The child inside
Our adult mask tries to hide,
And immortal youth of spirit.
Embrace one and find
The other will be near it.
