This is the basic Harkonnen
infantry. The weapon that they carry is a simple rifle. They're good in
large numbers.
This is the Trooper, an
old Harkonnen favourite. It's slower than normal infantry. It can fire
at aircraft, but it's best against land units. It fires non-guided missiles.
This is a new Harkonnen
invention, that stays true to their "style". It's a Flamer Infantry that
does extreme close-range damage. The fuel they carry is a bit unstable,
though, and if a Flamer catches fire, the resulting explosion can be very
dangerous to anything near it.
A Harkonnen Engineer has
the same role as the Engineers in other Westwwod games (repairing friendly
buildings and capturing enemy ones). But this Engineer also has a gun.
The Scout is a very fast
unit with a long line of sight. It becomes stealthy when it doesn't move.
So it's best used for... scouting, of course.
The Buzzsaw has two light
cannons, but its main feature is the gigantic sharp wheel that it has.
It uses the wheel to cut infantry to pieces, as well as destroy spice fields.
The Assault Tank follows
the tradition of tough but slow Harkonnen tanks. It has huge frontal power,
but it's cannon is fixed, without a mobile turret.
The Inkvine Catapult is
an artillery unit. It shoots barrels filled with toxic inkvine fluid. On
impact, the barrels brake and release the fluid, causing extensive area-damage
and leaving behind flammable puddles. It's best against infantry.
The Flame Tank is, of course,
a primarily anti-infantry vehicle. It's very slow, but it has 2 mobile
turrets that can fire independently. The Flame Tank is great against buildings,
as well as infantry.
The old Missile Launcher
is also present in Emperor. It's pretty much the same as in Dune 2000.
But it's Harkonnen-only and acts more like a real Missile Launcher, in
other words it's a long-range unit used to bomb the enemies from behind
the front lines.
The good-old Devastator
makes a comeback. This monster is equiped with twin plasma cannons and
a self-destruct device that does massive damage. It's still painfully slow
and expensive, though.
The MCV can deploy on rock,
turning itself into a Construction Yard. This vehicle is expensive and
slow.
The Harvester is the workhorse
of your resourcing operations. It is the only unit capable of collecting
spice and delivering it at a Refinery. If you lose all your Harvesters,
you get one for free (as long as you still have at least one Refinery).
This is the Carryall, a
huge transport aircraft. It automatically picks up Harvesters and moves
them around the map, just like in Dune 2000.
The Advanced Carryall in
not automatic, you can control it. It acts a lot like the Orca Carryall
from TS. It can move any one vehicle around the map.
This is a slow and expensive
air unit. It can only fire at other air units, but it's very good at taking
them out.
This is the Gunship. It
flies slower than an Ornithopter and it has the same payload of missiles.
But it fires the missiles two at a time, so it does damage twice as fast.
The Gunship has more armour than the Ornithopter. It must return to a Landing
Pad to re-load.
The Harkonnen Construction
Yard builds all their buildings... obviously.
This is the Harkonnen Windtrap.
It uses the strong arrakian wind to provide power to Harkonnen bases. It
has only weak armor.
The Hangar produces all
air units. It needs to be upgraded in order to gain access to the more
advanced ones.
The Harkonnen use the Starport
just like the other houses, for trading with the CHOAM. In the actual game,
you can use it to buy units.
The Barracks is where the
Harkonnen soldiers are trained to obey orders and fear the wrath of the
Baron. It produces infantry.
This turret shoots powerful
flames at any enemy units foolish enough to get within its range. It does
massive damage to infantry.
The Harkonnen Factory is
where all their vehicles are produced. Factories and their associated installations
are probably responsible for the polluted wastelands of Giedi Prime.
This is the most powerful
Harkonnen defensive structure. As you can see, it has many guns, useful
for smashing enemy vehicles. It can also fire at air targets.
The Landing Pad is a high
platform that rearms Harkonnen air units in need.
Just like in previous Dune
games, the Outpost provides radar information. But it needs power to operate.
The Harkonnen Refinery is
just like the other houses' refineries. It is the place where Harvesters
unload spice. Refineries can be upgraded with unloading "docks", so up
to 3 Harvesters can unload at the same Refinery.
The Harkonnen Palace...
This is where the Death Hands are built and launched from. It's more like
a Missile Silo than a Palace.
