In this FAQ I'll talk about the three computer-controlled armies in the Dune2k single player campaigns. They are the imperial forces, the mercenaries and the smugglers. The fremen aren't a separate side. They're just a special atreides unit. They only have one type of unit and no structures (the sietches don't count, because they don't do anything and you can't select them like you select structures). Including the fremen would be like including the CHOAM because they own the frigates.

The Imperial forces
House colour: purple
Home planet: Salusa Secundus
The imperial forces always fight against you. Their special units are the imperial sardaukars, who are different from the harkonnen sardaukars (in multiplayer) because they require anemperor's palace and they're cheaper and stronger. The imperial units and structures are theharkonnen model, but they're purple instead of red. However, their palace (the emperor's palace)is different (it looks like a pyramid with something on top). The imperial forces are usuallyweaker then your other enemies, except at the last level. However, their base is usually the
best protected, so you should destroy it last.

The Mercenaries
House colour: yellow
Home planet: N/A
The mercenaries will be your allies at the last three levels if you're ordos. You will meetthem once with the other houses, but as enemies. They don't have special units, but they havea special abillity: they keep receving free reinforcements from the starport. This is why, if you're ordos, you must NEVER let the mercenary starport get destroyed or captured. The mercenary units and structures are the ordos model, but they're yellow instead of green. However, their heavy factory is different (it's unlike any other heavy factory). Usually theydon't have a base with a const. yard, except at the ordos last level. If you're ordos, yourmentat keeps telling you that the mercenaries might turn against you. That's not true. They turn against you only if you attack them.

The Smugglers
House colour: brown
Home planet: N/A
The smugglers are usually neutral. They will be your enemies in only one level. They will always turn against you if you attack them. They're just ilegal spice miners. They don't have any real army. They're by far the weakest of all and they're usually just harvesting spice. They don't have any special units or abillities. The smugglers' units and structures are the ordos model, but they're brown instead of green. However, their starport looks different (they only have it in one level, the one when they're your enemies). Usually they only have a
refinery and a few silos. If they're near your base, you could capture them to get money.
