Firestorm is the official expansion pack for Tiberian Sun. It adds a whole
new dimension to the game. Firestorm doesn't just give you new units and
missions, it includes new features (like the online World Domination Tournament
and the new hotkeys). But this page is about the new units in the expansion
and about CABAL's army.

New units--
-
Cyborg Reaper (Nod)
This is the most useful unit
in the game. The Cyborg Reaper fires missiles at air units and vehicles.
Against infantry, the Reapers fire nets that temporarily immobilize the
soldiers. Once the infantry is immobilized, the Reapers fire their missiles
at it. The missiles are, of course, not to effective against the soldiers,
but it doesn't really matter (since they're trapped by the nets). The Cyborg
Reapers can self-repair on tiberium, at an incredible rate. And they're
considered vehicles, not infantry.
Mobile Stealth Generator -
MSG (Nod)
Due to the great usefulness
of Stealth Generators, the Brotherhood has developed a mobile version.
It doesn't need power to operate, but is covers only a pretty small area
(making it cheaper to use normal Stealth Generators on bases). However,
the MSG is mobile and can be deployed anywhere to make your units in that
area stealthy. For example, you can hide your Harvesters or create a "road
of stealth" from your base towards the enemy.
Elite Cadre (Nod)
This special infantry only appears
in the singleplayer missions, to replace the cyborgs that CABAL "stole".
Elite Cadres fire a very powerful machine gun that can rip apart infantry
and vehicles alike. They have good speed and armour. Best of all, they're
cheap for their value.
Limpet Drone (both sides)
The Limpet Drone has been created
specifically for gathering intelligence. It's a hover vehicle that can
deploy on land, becoming a stealthy "limpet mine" that will grab on to
any enemy vehicle that passes over it. The enemy has no way of knowing
if this happens, but Limpet Drones can be removed for free by a Repair
Pad or Mobile Repair Vehicle. The Drone's effect on the target vehicle
is to slow it down to a crawl and to let the Drone's owner see whatever
that vehicle sees. Deployed Limpet Drones (waiting for a "victim") can
be destroyed by EMP weapons.
Fist of Nod / Mobile War Factory
(both sides)
The Nod version is called Fist
of Nod, the GDI version is called Mobile War Factory. They're the same
thing: an unarmed vehicle that can be deployed to transform it into a War
Factory. Then it can be un-deployed and moved. For Nod, it can be very
useful to deploy an MSG next to it. You can't build next to a deployed
FoN/MWF. And you can only have one such vehicle at any one time.
Juggernaut (GDI)
In response to our Artillery,
the GDI scums have developed the Juggernaut. It has a Titan-like chassis
(it walks on 2 legs) and it needs to be deployed to fire. The Juggernaut
fires 3 projectiles at once, that together do a bit more damage than one
Artillery projectile (the Juggernaut is also a bit more expensive than
the Artillery). The Juggernaut is, of course, inaccurate. Instead of concentrating
its power in one gun (like the Artillery), the Juggernaut spreads it between
its 3 guns, making it better for area bombing and worse for specific-target
bombing. Destroy Juggernauts with fast vehicles.
Mobile EMP (GDI)
The Mobile EMP is a fast, but
light-armoured vehicle. It fires an EMP blast around itself by deploying.
However, it needs to recharge after fireing. GDI players often use this
vehicle to disable our Cyborg Reapers, in order to destroy them. Try to
destroy Mobile EMPs from a distance, or scatter your units.
Drop Pod control (GDI)
It's not a unit, it's an upgrade
for the GDI Upgrade Centre. It can be built only in multiplayer. The Drop
Pod control gives access to a new, rechargeable "weapon", the Drop Pods.
It consists of infantry reinforcements that come from the Philadelphia
Space Station and can be sent to land anywhere on the map. The infantry
arrive in "Drop Pods" and jump out of them as soon as they land. They can't
be destroyed while they're in the air, coming down. All the Drop Pod infantry
is veteran, and they're mostly Light Infantry, with 1 or 2 Disk Throwers.
Drop Pods are used mainly for scouting or as instant reinforcements. If
they're sent into an enemy base, they're dead as soon as they land. Don't
worry about them, just make sure your Harvesters are protected in case
GDI "drops" by.

CABAL's army--
-
CABAL, the highly advanced Nod computer,
betrays us in Firestorm. CABAL wants to destroy all "biological lifeforms"
(humans and what's left of the Earth's native species). He "steals" cyborg
technology and he uses cyborg units as his primary army. So there's a third
side in Firestorm: CABAL's army. But this only happens in singleplayer.
In multiplayer, CABAL is still the Nod AI. Besides cyborgs and a few other
GDI and Nod units, CABAL also owns some new buildings in both of the last
missions (the one for Nod and the one for GDI). He has also built his own
special unit in those missions: the Core Defender. I won't give you any
details about it, because I don't want to ruin your surprise. |
