The Silent Flame

A subtle flickering, a silent flame
Knows the face, knows the name
Sees the statue, flesh and bone
Hears the heartbeat, echo alone

The only light in a darkened room
This flame cannot dispel the gloom
The statue, strong, compelled to cope
Alas the flame can bring no hope

The statue sees a barren realm
A ghost ship with no-one at the helm
A wind-swept desert, eroding the past
The statue, too, is eroding fast

The spark of flame knows it cannot win
For that spark is buried too deep within
Entombed in the dusty catacomb
That the statue's heart once called home

No oxygen left for the spark to thrive
There was none let in to keep it alive
No energy left for sad good-byes
As the statues crumbles, turns to dust, and dies
