The Gate To Beyond
Through the gate I slipped
To look upon the graves and crypts
Statues, stones, and monuments tall
I've chosen to walk among them all
This cemetery brings me no fear
I'm happy to finally reside here
To admire tombs under moonlight
As I walk the grounds of a silent night
The moon is bright, the fog is thick
Spectres appear, and wraiths shout
Banshees wail, will o' wisps flicker
There's a sense of wonder all about
A smile dawns upon my face
As I reach my crypt, and step inside
I enter that dark, enclosed space
Where my corpse now permanently resides
The angel of death extends her hand
To guide me through this unknown land
The afterlife is now at my feet
Ready for my soul to accept, and greet
"The gate to beyond is what you've passed"
Azrael explains, with a laugh
"Life is only the embryo of death,
A new beginning where the past is left"
Spirits greet me, then go away
Eternally wandering here
They look upon death with dismay
To them, it's a nightmare
They can't accept that they're deceased
Unable to leave their lives behind
They refuse to move forward and be at peace
So this limbo is all that they'll ever find
I don't miss those I've left behind
Family and friends who were so unkind
They were shocked at my demise
At my escape from the life I despised
Death is something that they fear
But they can't avoid coming here
They don't think of death as a goal
They worry of things beyond their control
Immortality is what lies beyond
The life of which they're so fond
Peace can't be reached in a physical form
Contentment lives where the maggots swarm
Some call it heaven, some call it hell
They'll call it home when it's here that they dwell
Some fear to enter, some dread the gate
Afraid of their destiny, denying their fate
They'll understand once they arrive
They'll see what they missed while being alive
And then they will feel the great release
Of finally being able to rest in peace
They will see why I'm so fond
Of this afterlife in the beyond
That life is hell is what I've found
Happiness comes only when your soul isn't bound
