Black Star

A sudden truth has hit me
The answer to a question
I hadn't realized I'd asked
Until now

I am a black star
In a crowded sky
But in this crowd
I remain unnoticed

No one can spot me in the heavens
Although I am in plain sight
No one to gaze upon me, or wish upon me
No one made happy by my light

No lovers look at me as they embrace
No child looks in wonder upon my face
No dreamer dreams of reaching me someday
No poet writes verses symbolizing me

I am a lone star in a crowded world
In this crowd of billions, I remain unnoticed
For how can a black star compete
With a billion stars of light?
