Rodelyn sat at her desk. She'd just been introduced to all the Psychiatrists and support staff. Everyone was glad to have her on board. Now she sat in her small office. She'd already decided on ways to decorate it, which would appeal to the child.
"All settled in I see" Jackie, the woman she would be working under popped her head in.
"Yes, I'm trying."
"Well take as long as you want to acquaint yourself with the office and move stuff around. When you're free I'd like to talk to you about some of my client base." Jackie smiled at her and quietly closed the door.
Rod knew that this job would be a challenge to her, but also be a reward and she also knew that this is what her life would be about.
A few hours later Rodelyn was observing Jackie with a wonderful little girl who was a monthly client. Jackie was compassionate with the child. It seems she'd had some trauma in her life and her parents had decided to send her to their office to deal with it. The girl, barely 8 was bright and outspoken, until you brought up the past year. Then she withdrew into her shell.
"So what's going on with Mandy?" Rodelyn asked as the child's parents came to pick her up.
"Her grandmother died and she was very close to her. Her parents thought she was taking it rather well because she never showed her emotions, but she was also becoming more intolerable to them and her little brothers. Altogether violent. She's basically keeping the pain inside but inflicting pain on members of her family. She's 80% better, as you can tell, but I still like to work with her. Now what I want you to do is, I have a 3:00 appointment with a young man. It's his first. I'd like you to actually take that appointment and sit in with him as I talk to his family. See what you can do."
Rodelyn although scared of being thrown into the trenches so early, accepted with enthusiasm. Jackie gave her some material to look over that would help her talk to the child and get to know him.
"Jordan please. I'm begging you and you know I never do that. I wouldn't ask you but I'm so in a bind." Linda gave her friend pleading eyes. "It'll only be about 2 hours tops, if even that. I have an interview today and you know I need a job if I want to keep Evan."
Jordan looked away from her. She'd relied on him all too often whenever he was back home. He'd vowed that when he got back he would be strong and make her fend for herself. He'd came over to see Evan since he'd promised him he would as soon as he got back off tour. Evan was Linda's 6 year old bright little boy. Linda was Jordan's rehabilitated friend. They'd been friends since high school but where Jordan excelled with fame and fortune, Linda was dragged through the trenches and ended up drinking and doing drugs and other paraphernalia. Finally, with Jordan's urging she'd cleaned herself up and checked herself into a rehab program. His mom had been a lifesaver and kept Evan for the few months his mom was away "in school." Now that she was out, she had to find a job that would support living expenses for both her and Evan. She'd found a house and sitter but the job was the biggest step.
"Jordan please say you'll do it. You know Evan would like to spend some time with you since you've been gone. He misses you J." Linda hoped that Jordan wouldn't let her down. He never did but she knew that she'd pulled on his string way to many times. This would hopefully be the last time, if he would help.
"Don't try to guilt me into doing this Linda. I'll take him, but this is the last time, I repeat, the last time I bail you out. I'm only doing this because I know how much you both need that job."
"Oh Jordan you won't be sorry, you just won't. You are such a friend to me, and on my first check I'm taking you out to a big expensive dinner." She hugged him and smiled.
"No, no need, just treat your son Linda." He smiled. He was a big softy at heart. Especially when it came to Evan. Jordan turned just as the little boy bounded into the apartment. "Jordan! Woo Hoo!" He jumped on his back. "You're here! You'd better had come to see me, you better had."
"Hey little man, what 'sup. How can I forget to come see my favorite guy." Jordan hi fived him and then sat down on a chair" Hey I'm taking you somewhere today, to help your mom out, and after it there could be a sundae for you at my moms house, but you've got to go through with it, okay?"
"Is it a shot?" Evan stepped back. No way was he getting poked by a needle.
"Nope, won't even hurt."
"Well..."
"Come on Evan, its just what we've been talking about, you're going to go to an office and a person is going to ask you questions about your life. It'll be fun, sort of like a grown up 20 questions. And you can tell them anything you want." Linda looked pained when she said that, but she knew in order to keep him happy and sane he had to get out everything that's been put upon him.
"Okay mom, for you I will."
"Good, that's my boo. Then you two have fun, and by the time you get back I'll be a fully employed woman." Linda hugged Jordan again "Thanks" Jordan smiled at her and took the directions and information and off the two boys were.
