THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD

"I'd like to know the status on Evan Smith" Rodelyn was on the phone as Jordan took a shower. They planned on leaving at 7:30 to get to the hospital.

"We did the transfusion last night and he's coming along nicely. He's just sore and grumpy. We still have no information on the whereabouts of his mother, but we're working on it." The news was hopeful on Evans part. She couldn't believe that Linda would abandon her own son, and she said so much to Jordan.

"You know what, I shouldn't say I'm surprised. But I am surpassed I can say that. She hasn't changed Rod, and I should have believed you back then, I should have." He shook his head as they left the house. She didn't disagree with him.

As soon as they got to the hospital the doctor came out wanting to talk to Jordan privately. He asked if Rodelyn could come too, but the doctor insisted he speak to just Jordan. Rodelyn was able to go into the room though and see Evan. As she walked into the room she saw the cute little boy, head and chest bandaged, right leg up in a cast. When he saw her he smiled which made her heart melt.

"Roddy!"

"Hey Evan, how ya feeling?"

"Okay, I hurt but I got a cast and now all my friends can sign it, and I can be popular."

Rodelyn laughed "Can I be the first. Do you mind? I mean I know you probably want one of those cute girls to sign it first, you know your girlfriends." She smiled teasingly at him.

"Ew, not girls, they will not give me cooties. I'm already sick as it is. But you can sign cause you're not a girl. Well you are, but....oh just sign." Rodelyn laughed again as she took out a sharpie and signed. A few nurses had already signed too.

"Rod, where's my mommy? She isn't here."

She looked at him not quite knowing what to say. "They're looking for her." She decided to be truthful to a point.

"Is she hurt, is she lost."

"I don't know hon, I just don't know, but you need to concentrate on getting better so you can run around with Jordan." Just saying his name gave her butterflies as she thought of last night. "Where is Jordan anyway?"

"He's here, talking to the doctor."

The doctor closed the door behind Jordan. He started to get worried. Was it something they found on those tests. He started to hold his breath fearing what the doctor was going to say.

"Okay Mr. Knight, can I ask you a question?" Jordan nodded.

"Do you know where Evan's biological father is." Jordan nodded no, being relieved that the question wasn't towards his health.

"Well we do."

"What? You found him." Jordan didn't know what to think. Was he a druggie like Linda, what had he been doing? Why wasn't he around if he lived here. Questions popped in and out of his mind.

"We found quite some interesting information while taking your tests and drawing your blood Mr. Knight. We did a DNA test just for this instance since the boy does have some of your features. We believe you are Evan's father."
