Jordan sat at the airport holding back tears. If Evan died, he wouldn't forgive himself for leaving. "It's not my fault he's there" he kept telling himself but he wouldn't believe it. Linda, where was she. No doubt she'd probably got drunk and now she didn't want to own up to her responsibility. His fear turned to anger as he thought of all the signs he'd witnessed over the past few months. He thought about how he'd yelled at Rodelyn when she was only trying to protect Evan. As he boarded the plane and settled in he tried his best to forget the situation at hand. He could not.
Rodelyn sat in the hospital lobby. As of right now Evan was barely conscious and she couldn't see him until the finished running tests on him. He needed blood badly. The doctor stared into his room knowing that in a few hours, he'd lose too much blood to come out of this normally, if at all. She shook her head as she thought of the cold person who'd left him here, most likely to cover up for their mistakes.
Linda sat in her house as she gathered up clothing and a few necessities. Crying as she thought of what she'd done the night before. She'd been stoned out of her mind as she was driving with Evan to her house in someone else's car. She didn't even know how to drive a stick. Hell, she didn't even know where she'd been the past few days but everything had come on her all at once and she'd just had enough. Although she hadn't been doing drugs recently she'd been selling to make extra money and took Evan out of the psychological program until she could get back on her feet. The temptation of the drugs in the house was too hard for her and she'd just wanted a little to tie her over. The next thing she knew she was laying in the street, her son laying in a smashed up car, his eyes closed and blood pouring from his head and chest. She didn't know how bad she was hurt and she wouldn't know until her high wore off.
She'd carried him to the hospital and luckily no one was looking her way as she lay him on a chair and walked out. Now she had to hide, they'd be out to get her. She packed her drugs, a few clothes and left her apartment, walking into the night. Not taking an extra thought about Evan.
Jordan was met at the airport by his brother Jonathan. He'd called him from the plane, after calling the hospital to check on Evan's condition.
Jonathan was quiet as Jordan silently got into his SUV. "How's he doing bro?"
"They say he needs blood." Jordan just looked out the window.
Jon knew not to bother him in this state. He'd always warned Jordan about Linda. She was a user, and a loser he'd always say, but Jordan felt his obligation was to her. Why, he didn't know. He was very proud of him for staying with the kid though. Obviously Evan needed attention and Jon could bet that he wasn't getting the right kind of attention from his mother. They pulled up to the hospital in moments and Jordan hopped out.
"You want me to stay?"
"If you want, it would be appreciated Jon." Jordan closed the door and walked quickly into the hospital with Jon following on his heels.

Rodelyn was sitting in the lobby holding a cold cup of hot chocolate. As Jordan walked in and saw her his heart melted, she looked so beautiful. For a second all that was happening was surpassed by his love for her. He watched her as she sat in the chair, one foot up on the chair in her jeans and white sweater, her hair laying over her shoulders. She looked worried as she stared at the television set hanging over the lobby.
"Rodelyn?" Jordan advanced on her and took her in his arms.
"Oh God Jordan, I'm so scared, they haven't given me any more information." They held on to each other tightly, Jonathan looking on at the two.
"It'll be okay Rod, it will." At that point a doctor came out.
"Rodelyn?" She pulled away and looked at him.
"Yes."
"He's stable, he's conscious and we think we have a chance."
Rodelyn smiled through her tears and looked at the doctor "Really?"
"We still need blood though, it'll make all the difference."
"Blood?" Jordan said.
Rodelyn explained to Jordan about Evan needing blood and quickly Jordan asked the doctor what he needed to do to give. Rodelyn just looked at Jordan. He was ready to do anything for Evan. It was at that point that she realized she loved him.
"Well we'll run some tests on you, and if you match, it's a go." The doctor lead Jordan away down the hallway.
"Um, hi, I'm Jonathan." He looked at Rod who had just noticed he was there.
"Oh, hi Jon, sorry, I'm Rodelyn." They shook hands and she wiped the tears from her eyes. Jonathan asked her connection to the whole thing and they sat down as she explained her job and Evan.
"And you and my brother?" He asked after she'd finished.
"We're...friends." He noticed the slight pause.
"Sounds as if you're not sure."
"Well, I...I don't know, there's so much that's happened to me I think a relationship is the last thing I need."
"You know sometimes it helps if love is the first thing." Jon sat back ready to listen to her spill her story, which she did. She told him about her past loves, her life and her vow to herself to concentrate on everything else. Jon listened intently. She'd been hurt and now she wanted to push anyone that wanted to get close to her away. It wasn't good.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, I guess Jon." Bringing everything out had put her more into a bad mood.
"Has concentrating on work made you feel any happier?"
"Well, it's helped, I mean besides recently, I've been very happy."
"Because of work."
"Yea....because of Jordan" She admitted to him and herself.
At that time Jordan came out smiling. "It's done, I match." He felt good for what he had just done, in fact, he felt very good. Especially when the doctor told him that Evan was conscious but they still couldn't see him. He suggested they go home and rest, come back tomorrow and he'd be better.
They all walked out. Jonathan said something about an appointment he had to keep so he asked if Rodelyn could drive Jordan home. As they got into her car Jordan looked around. "Nice wheels." Was all he said as they drove off.
