Jordan drove Evan home quietly. He hurt from the rejection but he didn't want to push. He felt that she was attracted to him, but he'd always noticed she shied away from being to close to him. There had to be something in her past that pushed her away from love. Jordan pulled up in front of the house, Evan sleeping. "Come on little man, let's get you home." Jordan picked him up and struggled to walk the two flights to the apartment. This time he knocked and was relieved that the door was locked. Linda answered the door. "Glad to see you're up."
"Hey Jordan" She walked back into the kitchen and poured herself a glass of water.
"Going for the soft stuff tonight?" Jordan said rudely.
"What's your problem?" Linda said walking back into the living room.
"My problem is your drinking, you're obvious none respect for your son. I came in here and found you in a drunken slumber laying basically in your own vomit Linda."
"I was having a hard day Jordan, things aren't going well."
"And? That doesn't mean you pull out on all promises you've made. Does rehab mean anything to you?
"Jordan stop" Linda looked at Evan.
"Oh what, like this is something he isn't used too? Look at him Linda, that's your son and you're sabotaging him and yourself. What if I was the social worker who came in? Then what, he'd be back in another foster home and you'd be wondering why this world is against you. You are so stupid Linda, you keep going at the rate you're going, and don't turn to me when your life finally hits bottom."
Linda turned on him "Get the hell out of my house Jordan. You come in here talking all big and mighty, you have your life mapped out for you. You don't have no worries, about money or nothing so what do you know about hardship? Get the hell out with your high and mighty ass."
"Mom No!" Evan went and stood in front of Jordan "You can't tell him to leave, he's my friend not yours."
Evan looked defiantly at his mom.
"Evan to you room now!" Linda went to hit him and Jordan caught her arm. "If you so much as touch him, I'll personally see that he's taken out of your house."
Linda walked out of the room.
"I'm trying to help you, remember that." Jordan yelled. He turned to Evan. "Look bro, you be careful, stay out of her way, if she hurts you, you page me, I don't care what time it is, okay." Jordan felt uneasy leaving him with her, but he couldn't do anything. She obviously wasn't drunk at that moment and she could very well call the police on him.
"Okay Jordan, I will." He hugged him and looked into his eyes "I love you Jordan."
"I love you too Evan." Tears came into his eyes and he turned away and walked out before Evan saw them fall.
