The next few weeks were busy for Rodelyn, she got down to a normal routine at work. She even had a small client base. Jackie watched as she excelled. She was great with the children. She had that youthfulness that pulled the children out of their shells. They felt they could trust her, which they could. It amazed Jackie how many times Rodelyn would tell her something that one of the children told her that no one could get out of them. She was really an asset to the company. As Jackie closed and locked the building Rodelyn stood by waiting. Jackie had recently started driving her home so she wouldn't be out all night on the train. They'd become acquaintances the beginning of friends.
"It's Friday, what are your plans? Going to go out to clubs or something?" She didn't know what Rodelyn did on her nights and weekends but her being young and out of college, she could just imagine.
"No, I don't know probably get on the computer or something, rent a movie." Rodelyn hardly went out, there was no need and no friends to go out with at this point.
"No way, a young pretty girl like you? You need to be enjoying your youth. A happy life makes for a happy person."
"My life is happy, I enjoy what I do Jackie."
"I know you do but you need to go out and enjoy life after five. Heck I'm even prone to going and kicking back a few." Jackie was surprised at Rodelyn and as she turned past Newbury Street she got an idea. "How's about we stop in at Starbucks and get a couple of drinks, coffees or lattes?"
Rodelyn didn't have anywhere to go, and she thought it would be fun. Jackie turned down the street and pulled into a parking place just steps away. Rodelyn couldn't help but remember the times she'd came to Boston to see New Kids and how many times she'd been down this street. Funny she lived here now and hadn't even ventured out. As they walked to Starbucks and ordered they talked and Rodelyn talked about her younger years.
"Oh no, wow I always knew when the girls were here with an alternate motive. At times there would be girls crawling through the street searching for a glimpse. I used to work down here while I was in college and I'd laugh my ass off at those teens. Well looks like they grew up to do okay by themselves huh?"
"Hey we had to show people we weren't all crazy and psycho by nature. We had brains."
As they talked they didn't notice Jordan walking out of a building directly across. He walked across the street to his car and glanced up. There was Rodelyn and her boss sitting in Starbucks. Jordan smiled. He'd thought of her more than once in the last few weeks. He didn't feel right going back to her office with no real reason and he wouldn't just show up at her door, that would be to psycho. He went inside and ordered a drink and calmly walked up to them.
"Mind if I join you ladies?" They both looked up and Rodelyn almost lost her Cappuccino.
"Hey, Jordan, right?" Jackie asked smiling. "Well I'll be." She thought.
She scooted away from Rodelyn "Join us. I was just telling Rodelyn here that she needs to get out and enjoy this city."
Jordan smiled at her. "Hey"
"Hey." Rodelyn couldn't believe her luck. Jordan again.
"Yeah Rodelyn, this is a college town, a lot to do and see, especially after dark."
"Been there, done that, it's all the same in every town Jordan, just the scenery is different. You go, you dance, you get drunk, you go home...hopefully alone and then you wake up the next morning with a killer hangover and you plan to never do that again, until next weekend."
"Wow, you've done some stuff. I wasn't even talking about that. Even though clubs can be fun too. I was talking about this, just hanging out and meeting people."
"Listen to him Rod, he knows, obviously."
"What, did you two just collaborate to get together and show me how boring my life really is because it isn't. I like what I do and how I do it." Rodelyn got defensive all of a sudden. "Sorry, but I just don't like being pressured to live by someone else's standards."
"We're not telling you how to live, we're just giving you some different suggestions. No need to get all defensive Rodelyn." Jackie inwardly laughed.
Changing the subject, Rodelyn asked about Evan.
"You tell me, he's still been going hasn't he?" As far as Linda told him Evan was still going every week, but she was prone to lying.
"Yep, we've developed quite the bond." Her face brightened as she thought of the progress they'd made in the short month. He was an abused little boy and how he could see the light in all his mother's doings was beyond her.
"I go over there and see him almost every other day and he's doing well. In fact this weekend I'm thinking of taking him to New York to see some sites."
"Wow that's cool, and his mom?"
"She's doing fine, working and trying her best to take care of him. I think she's doing a great job at it too." Jordan looked at her; he got that feeling in his heart again.
"Well that's good, she's trying at least. I just hope..."
"Don't worry about it, she wants to do good by him Rodelyn."
They all talked for awhile then Rodelyn decided she wanted to go home. She turned to Jackie, "you think you're ready?" Inwardly she laughed, she thought she would never see the day when she was ready to leave Jordan, but she was tired and wanted to just go back to her apartment.
"Here's a thought, Jordan why don't you take her home. I don't mean to push you off but I see a friend of mine I haven't seen in forever and I'd like to go talk to her. Is that okay with you two?"
Rodelyn and Jordan looked at each other "If he doesn't mind?"
"If she doesn't mind" Jordan said at the same time.
They all laughed. "Well then it's settled, I'll see you kids later. She hugged Rodelyn and then Jordan. "Try and make her go out" she whispered to him and walked off.
"Well, you ready?" She yawned.
"It's not even 8:00 yet girl and you're yawning. Okay let's go." They walked to his car and he quietly drove her home.
"Thanks again Jordan." She looked at him before she got out. He was still incredibly handsome but she had grown up. She wished she could be in her mindset back then, she would have probably pulled him into her apartment and padlock the doors.
"You sure you don't want to just hang out for awhile, I've got nothing better to do?"
"Nah, not this time Jordan, maybe another time. I just want to relax." She smiled at him and he smiled back disappointment evident. "Okay then, I'll have to take you up on that 'next time.'" She got out and walked up to the stairs to her building. Jordan watched her intently knowing that he was feeling something for her.
