This chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  Isaiah 53, 5.

Perhaps some of our readers are only too conscious of their sins and their wasted life. It is indeed shocking to suddenly discover how God regards and judges sin!

You would like to be free from sin and start a fresh life under God’s guidance. You may well have asked Him to forgive your guilt long ago, and yet you are still unhappy and find no peace. Burning questions trouble your heart. You know that God is holy and must punish sin. Can He simply forgive us all our guilt? Won’t He one day bring up the issue once again? Can we really be sure that we are free from judgment?

The Bible, God’s reliable Word,  has a wonderful message for you: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, stood in God’s judgment on your behalf as your Substitute. He paid the debt of all your guilt that you yourself could not pay. The punishment that you deserved according to God’s righteous judgment was borne by Him in His suffering and death, so that you can enjoy the peace of which today’s verse speaks.

You have repented of an confessed your sin frankly before God. Now He expects you to believe in the Lord Jesus and His work of redemption. God’s Word says that all who believe in Him “shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10, 43) and that he has “made peace through the blood of his cross” and reconciled us with God, presenting us, “holy, and unbelievable and unreproveable in his sight” (Colossians 1, 20 - 22). This is not a matter of our feelings but of faith,  because God has said it. This we must accept,  for His Word is reliable.
