Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.  1 Corinthians 15, 32.

That is the language and practice of all who do not believe in resurrection and a life beyond the grave. But the Bible refutes any such philosophy of life. It says clearly and unmistakably that life does continue after death and that things concerning eternity are absolute reality. In contrast to this there are human theories, which are constantly changing, even if they have to do exclusively with this life. Human knowledge is only partial and will always remain so. God’s Word, on the other hand, “abideth for ever” (1 Peter 1, 23), and it states categorically that the dead will rise again.

Anyone who rejects God’s decrees should examine his own conscience, which will tell him quite definitely that all is not over with  death. That accounts for the secret fear of that unknown land from which no traveler returns. Whoever denies the existence of life after death should ask himself if it is not wishful thinking that impales him to believe that. He is afraid of encountering God in all His holiness and righteousness in eternity. But what is the use of shutting one’s eyes to the abyss into which one is about to rush headlong?

Just as our wishes or our will were not consulted when we awoke to our earthly life, the change to another life in eternity is not dictated by what we think, hope or want. God’s Word makes it clear that there are two doors open to us at the end of or life: heaven or hell; eternal life or eternal condemnation. During our life we decide by which door we are going to enter eternity. Once the threshold has been crossed, our fate is decided. That shows how important it is to turn to Jesus Christ for salvation now.
