I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. Job 19, 25.
“Jesus the loser” New religious conquer the world”. This was printed on the title page of a popular magazine. A sacrilegious picture went with it, depicting Jesus carrying a suitcase and leaving a large town in resignation.
This is one of the conspicuous phenomena of our time, since a multitude of religious and philosophies have had an increasing influence on our society. On the one hand ancient, traditional eastern religions are spreading more and more throughout western lands, on the other the occult, mystical “New Age” movement is extending its grip on people. No-one who knows his Bible will wonder at this. In 2 Timothy 4, 3 & 4 we read: “The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables”. God has foreseen this development. That is why Timothy was advised, “Watch thou in all things” (v. 5). This is the best counsel for us in the present situation.
Jesus has certainly not lost! Job was the earliest of the inspired writers of the Bible, and he prophesied Christ’s victory. At Calvary He triumphed over Satan, death and even His enemies. Now, seated at God’s right hand in heaven, He awaits the moment when His enemies will be made His footstool. They will be the losers for not obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ (cf. 2 Thessalonians 1, 8).
