I cap, therefore, I am. I cap mostly weekdays, while at work, but sometimes on weekends, too.  Many things make me laugh, but only cheese truly excites me -- well, that and hunky, Major Don West from TV's "Lost in Space", but we won't go there. One of these days, maybe I'll find something else to update my site with, but for now, enjoy the cheese, won't you?

What do I like about capping? I like the fact that it's like a chatroom, but without all that annoying conversation. I like the way it casually infringes on every copyright law known to man. I like the subversive aspect of it the way it allows you to take the hard work of a whole crew of people--writers, directors, set designers--and in a few short words render it into something completely other (and often better) than what was intended. I like the improv feel to it you have to come up with jokes fast, any attempt at revision and you're usually off the screen by the time you post it. I like the fact that you can somehow make friends through this activity.

Sheesh. All that from typing one-liners under pictures. 'Course, I like coloring books, too. I like the way that you are God over the image the colors you add are the colors that others see. I like the way that no matter how hard you color in black, you can still see the black lines of the original drawing. I like the way that staying in between the lines is optional, and I think that whether or not you do dictates the way you'll live the rest of your life. I like the...

But mostly, I adore my fellow cappers, who make me abbreviate breathlessly, IMHO.

So until I manage to uninstall the drama from my T.V., it looks like MST3K is my only reason to own one!  Annnd, until I manage to *install* Lightwave3D 5.6, CT is my only reason to own a computer!  :)

Why do I caption? Because life's too short not to laugh the entire time. Okay, but not at funerals and stuff. And, not at like, big buildings falling over, unless it's on "World's Wildest..." shows. Okay, and maybe it's not such a great idea to laugh when your boss tells you that you're "not living up to your potential," or when your boyfriend finds out you're cheating on him and stuff. Except for, when I get really nervous, I *do* laugh, so maybe I *would* be laughing in all the aforementioned situations. Who knows?!

Oh yeah, why I caption. Because I like to laugh. There's really no other reason, and I can't think of another reason anyone might want to caption. The captions I like most are the ones that seem as if they actually could be explaining what is going on in the picture, if the world had evolved differently--that is, as little ironic distance as possible, which is probably why I don't find pop culture references as funny as some people do.  I also like caps that don't hit you until about ten seconds after you've read them.

I caption because it's often more entertaining and more mentally challenging then Zoning Out and watching the boob tube... also I like being a smart ass. Plus I was a fan of MST3K before I even watched an episode. I also cap because I like the laugh, and with a good crowd you could be laughing into the wee hours of the morn. 

I like caps that go with the picture and are funny. Not much criteria, I know. One thing I would like to say, I think I've seen hundred of these things, and am getting a bit tired of them, insertion jokes... err let me rephrase that *Insert Joke* jokes. I know it's supposed to be referencing an overused premise, but come-on! That's when we cappers gotta bear down, strap in, and turn it 180 degrees into a great caption!

Well, I can't usually be found capping much of any time nowadays but goddamn if I don't love check boxes! Capping Times: Saturday and Sunday around 12AM-3AM Pacific Time. 

Captioning helps me save money instead of spending it on normal and more socially acceptable activities like getting shit-faced at a bar and waking up naked at an animal petting zoo. 
With my idols being Mark Twain and Groucho Marx, my captions have a tendency to cross the line of "Political Correctness". Probably 'cause it's frowned upon in these sterile and pampered times we live in. Instead of tiptoeing around trying not to offend anyone, I make it a point to try to offend everyone. Have patience.  I'll get around to your sex, race, and/or creed sooner or later. I'm a firm believer that we all need to learn to laugh at ourselves. 
Rather than listing handles of Captioneers that make me laugh, allow me to highlight the type of captions that attack my funny bone. I am a huge admirer of anyone who can ad-lib humorously within a few seconds.  The best captions are the ones that nail the visuals of a screengrab perfectly with witty and literate commentary that wouldn't work with just any ol' picture. 
Chances are if you're in a "Pauly Shore" or "Jim Carrey" Fan Club, I probably ain't gonna be rolling around on the floor at your brand of humor.  "Who farted?" captions just don't appeal to me. Multi-layered topical and cultural references are at the top of my list of favorites. Is that vague enough for you? 
Two quick points: (1) When I created my handle I chose the exact lettering from the film title, all upper case. I later found out that this signified "shouting" and that offended some people. Naturally, I kept my original handle. (2) I'm very poor with "Hi/Bye"s. I can manage one or two per hour, but mass entrances and/or exits are beyond my hermit-like social capabilities. Accept it 'cause I have. THERE! I think I rambled on longer than Jazzsoda now. WAHOO!

I like to caption because it makes me laugh. Simple, cute caps make me laugh the most, as do scary intricate caps I don't understand for a second but which sound funny anyhow. I love all cappers equally, as a mother loves all of her children equally but still secretly favors some: Generik, camus, GersonK, Laserblast and JoeAnthrax (my new faves),Hippie, JorG (who I never see anymore, CaveDweller (who I almost never see anymore)BuckFifty (who's a dear person), the wonderful Scouty and also wonderful AgentMoldy (tremendously talented) and lastly, my amplefriends--they know who they are. There are so many. So many. I'm sure I'm forgetting cappers who deserve to be mentioned. Luckily, they won't care if I mention them or not. I've been on Caption This, gosh, since 1996, I think, and I have to say, through all the ups and downs, I've never known a more entertaining group of personalities whom I don't really know. As Matt Groening once said, "The great thing about television is that you can sit around having a terrific time for years with five people who are about ready to kill each other." I'm paraphrasing here. The same applies to Caption This.  Love you guys.

Well, after nearly a year of this, I no longer feel like "The New Guy," which is kind of nice. I guess I'd characterize myself as a sort of Eternal Second-Stringer: I'm in nowhere near the league of geniuses like EBA, Artanas, SunSinner, HanoverF, or a dozen or so others, but I can at least rub shoulders with the big guys (and gals) and occasionally get my name in the credits with the stars. 

Why Cap? I'd feel guilty just reading everyone else's work, so I try and participate. Besides, I'm an insomniac with a sociophobic streak, so it's nice to be part of a group I can turn to in semi-anonymity at one in the morning. 

What makes me laugh? Lots of stuff. Bad puns and perspective shifts are my personal favorites. Especially the ones where you can look at the cap and go "You know, he/she's right, but I never thought of it that way!" 

What really bugs me is that the caps of mine that make it into galleries usually aren't really "me". The cap I chose for this profile is probably the most representative of my typical sense of humor: no real point, just turn things on their ear and see how it comes out. Well, that and obscure refs that maybe two people on the planet will get.

Why do I caption? To make myself laugh, and hopefuly to make others laugh as well. I don't think of myself as a great capper, but every so often I rip one off that I KNOW is wonderful. It's a good feeling, especialy when people comment on you and put you in thier galleries.

I like to go on Caption This mainly because I always do a lil quipping of my own during movies or TV shows like Mike and the bots and this gives me a chance to reflect my humor on other people. 
Mystery Science Theater 3000 is pretty near the only show that makes me laugh, although South Park and The Simpsons are funny too.  I am a junior at Penn State majoring in criminal justice, so behave or I'll bust ya!

My mental health care provider feels that I caption in order to fulfill a fierce leftover childhood need to gain attention by being a smartass. He says as long as I leave the Thorazine IV in place and keep captioning, I'm probably not a danger to society. 
Next to double-blind bowling on the Moe's Absinthe Bar & Grill team, capping on the job and trying to look as if I'm working is my greatest challenge in life.

Why do it ? I love to add a little fun to an otherwise dull and pointless tv program.  When you see Shatner and his big head taunting you to make a smart ass remark. One can't help it. I live for MST3K. Sometimes it's better than sex, not all of the time. But, sometimes.

HI MY NAME IS PAAAAAAAAK! I've been capping for years. I'm one of the lesser recognized cappers, 'cause I'm not ALWAYS around. It's an impulse thang for me. Every now and then I gotta get it out of my system. The rest of the time I favor studying and classes and stuff. :^) I can be spotted fairly quickly by my trademark smiley and unique brand of caps. They tend to border on insanity, 'cause I'm just that way, I guess.. Since I usually throw snide comments at the TV when I'm watching alone, and sometimes when I'm watching with other people, Cap This seems like a natural extension of this inclination, in a supportive environment with other talented smartasses. And when they say hi to me, it makes me feel specical, hee hee.
I cap to unwind and let my smartass self run free where I can be relatively sure that he won't offend anyone.  The threads are fun, but the true original caps are the best in my opinion. My favorite caps are the ones that make me laugh. Obscure refs are fun, but only if I get them. I really like when a capper can take a seemingly generic picture and put a completely new spin on it, and give it a whole new meaning. Of course, the real gut-busters are the ones where a funny cap is stuck on an already funny picture, and the whole thing becomes more than the sum of it's parts. That's when I find religion. And the rest is history.

Why I caption? Because I can! Because I think it's a great way to keep on my toes. I enjoy laughing, & making other people laugh, too. As for Generik's profile, NO COMMENT! Except that he should have known better. (So should have I, being the one who started the whole flame war in the first place!). If you want to know what I think of Generiks opinion pole of cappers, I think he showed a bit of bias here & there, but I won't go into that here! :-)

Capping Times: Monday-Friday around 6PM-8PM, Central Time. 

I enjoy capping Star Trek, but will occassionally cap during movies. (Dune, V, TrekFest)

When not capping, I enjoy attacking the PRWF (Power Rangers Wrestling Federation). My goal to to eliminate all clones and other dopplegangers, as they are unnatural. Even if I am defeated there, I will still enjoy capping.

I am become Shiva, destroyer of worlds. I cap because I can, dagnabbit, and there ain't nuthin' you can do about it, copper! Top of the world, ma! I cap because I feel an overpowering urge, a need to feign a sense of humor and make rude comments about Seaquest, Sliders, Star Trek and other such crappy shows while squeezing in as many in-jokes as I can into an evening. I want a rock to wind a piece of string around, and I want to twist again like we did last summer. I am the Lizard King, I can do anything. My favorite caps are the unexpected little ditties, the clever little comments that bite you on the proverbial ass and and whose humor you can't quite pin down, much as you might try. A lot of people ask me, "Vermin Boy, what in God's name were you thinking when you chose that handle?!" Well, to tell you the truth, it's not a handle. It's my real name. You see, I was the illegitimate son of Booji Boy, from Devo. 

Anyway, I might tie with JoeCrow and MirandaRamsey as the oldest capper here, since I started capping January 29, 1997. Anyway, I'm planning on a comeback. I got a big rock with the screengrabber's name on it, heh heh...

I was born in the log cabin my grandpappy built...back in them days, we didn't have no Caption This!...instead when Cousin Earl would trip and sprain his ankle we'd all just LAUGH our hinders off! Kinda makes me wonder why he went on that there killin' spree in Ann Arbor some time back... 
In them days, the fields would be COVERED with Shatners, roamin' free in the wild, their wigs a-flappin' in th' wind. Now look how many there are...

It's hard to explain why I cap in a few words. 

It's unique. It's wacky. It's intellectual. I think there's no other game like it on the Net (I've looked). I'm sure we've all tried to explain what it's about to some non-capper and they never understand (as they slowly back away). You have to play it to understand. It's just outrageous fun. 

And Generik's profile makes me angry because it doesn't show off his dashing good looks as well as looking at him dead on.

I cap because it's there (and JediClone wouldn't let me riff Batman & Robin if I didn't have a profile). Generik's profile irritates me because of the cutesy-poo picture.
